I miss you

I miss you, my pearl
your laughs and kisses
now but figments of my imagination
as your home is now empty of you

I miss you Emma
who would have thought
that I would find comradery
in a silly southern belle

I miss you Chicago
but I know you mistreated me
for you blew closed the doors
I so desperately knocked on

I miss you Grandpa
I thought you’d live
to be 100 years young
but you said goodbye at 92

I miss you, my youth
If I could turn back
the clock’s gears, I know
I wouldn’t hesitate to explore

I miss you, oh joy
for you are fleeting
yet present, which makes it
harder to enjoy you anymore
